Strike! Bowling alleys in Singapore with kid-friendly features like bumpers and dragon ramps plus cosmically cool bowling alleys for teens

Have you taken the kids bowling yet? This indoor sport makes such a fun family bonding activity, especially when it’s raining or too hot to enjoy an outdoor park or playground – it should really be on our 101 Things to Do with Kids in Singapore list! Teens and older kids love the independence of having their own lane with a few friends so it makes a super birthday party venue but it’s also a fun activity for little kids as young as three (thanks to one bowling alley’s dragon ramp). Some of the most family-friendly bowling alleys offer side bumpers for kids, as well as children’s bowling shoes. Here’s our pick of the best kid-friendly bowling alleys in town…

Orchid Bowl

Orchid Bowl has the essential side bumpers for kids to bowl (otherwise that ball ends up in the gutter more often than not!) and these bumpers can be programmed to only come up when it’s the kids’ turn to bowl. A big feature that makes Orchid Bowl stand out from other bowling alleys is the Dragon Ramps (available as part of a 1hr bowling package). These plastic dragon-shaped ramps allow kids to slide their ball down so it has more chance to roll straight down the bowling alley and knock some pins down (and it also means kids don’t have to swing the ball which is heavy for little fingers!). Orchid Bowl offers smaller 5-pound bowling balls for little kids and also sports glow-in-the-dark bowling on some days for something different. A nifty computerised scoring system with animated games completes the state-of-the-art offerings here.

Kallang Bowl

Kallang Bowl is a popular bowling alley so definitely book your slot ahead of time. Lots of swish features include 22 bowling lanes, side bumpers to help kids bowl, bowling balls that don’t weigh a tonne, a computerised scoring system and bowling shoes in children’s sizes. Kallang Bowl is the priciest place to bowl in Singapore, from $28 per lane/hour through to $50 per lane/hour on weekends after 2pm. Read our full review here.

Bowling with the Family Tips:

  • Book ahead to reserve a lane with side bumpers or for very small kids the Dragon Ramp at Orchid Bowl is really the best!
  • If the bowling alley doesn’t have shoes small enough for your child to rent (usually around $1.50/pair) they will allow kids to wear their own shoes – just make sure these are covered like trainers (no flip flops/crocs etc). You must wear socks when renting bowling shoes.
  • Looking for a deal? The cheapest bowling is at Westwood Bowl at CSC Bukit Batok $4/game for non-members. If you are set on a kid-friendly bowling alley from our list check out when their off peak hours are for the cheaper prices. NTUC Plus! and Passion cards may score you a cheaper deal too.
  • Many bowling alleys offer party packages for those looking to celebrate kids’ birthdays without the mess at home!
