From interactive displays to dedicated kids’ activities, there’s plenty of fun to be had at these awesome kid-friendly museum exhibitions in Singapore. Psssst! Some are even free to enter!
A visit to the museum is a great way for kids to beat boredom and learn new things! We highlight some of the more child-friendly art exhibitions and museum exhibitions at some of our favourite spots to take the kids – from the ArtScience museum (the FutureWorld exhibition is always a hit!), to the National Gallery Singapore, the Science Centre, the National Museum Singapore and more! Most of these exhibitions have lots of interactive fun to suit any age group. 1. Get Curious! Our Early Settlers
Want to learn more about Singapore’s past? Join Professor Alvis and his niece, Bernice as they take kids through various interactive installations that tell the stories of Singapores early settlers. With five interactive installations, kids can learn more about the early settlers trades and legacy. There is also a wide variety of activities that accompany each installation. Create different modes of transport using tangram sets or count out money to buy kuehs, there is so much for kids to learn enjoy. These installations are best for children aged three to 12 and older kids can also join in the fun with other activities such as the What Your Toy Story? Campaign where kids share their stories of their favourite toys and stand a chance to win attractive prizes!

3. Masak Masak by The Merry Men Works at The Artground
It’s not really a museum for kids in Singapore; it’s more of an art space, but The Artground aims to provide positive arts experiences for all children aged 0 to 12. Part indoor playground, part interactive theatre space, on weekends it offers heaps of movement and dance workshops along with arts and craft activities. There is a range of programmes available each weekend, but pre-booking is essential. Do you have a young one that’s always playing with their food? Bring them down to The Artground! The new play installation, Masak Masak, features a food-themed play space with many fun food related installations to play with. From climbing huge bowls of chendol to jumping on an egg tart trampoline, there are so many fun things for kids to play with. Though the saying goes, “Don’t play with your food.”, Masak Masak play space is the one time that little ones should be doing just the opposite!

4. Future World: Where Art Meets Science Exhibition
The ArtScience Museum is a gorgeous museum for kids in Singapore that houses plenty of exhibitions throughout the year that inspire creativity and wonder. One of our favourite exhibitions for kids in Singapore has to be ArtScience’s permanent exhibition FutureWorld – billed as “Singapore’s largest digital playground”. This fantastic exhibit created in collaboration with the Japanese art and technology collective teamLab, is an interactive exploration of the “intersection between art, science, technology and culture”. There are light installations to marvel at, a giant slide to whizz down, drawing activities where you can colour with special crayons, scan your creation, and watch it appear on a live screen and more. 5. We Live in an Ocean of Air Exhibition
A brand new, first-of-its-kind exhibition will be coming to the ArtScience Museum soon. We Live in an Ocean of Air will be opening on 28 May 2022 as a permanent exhibition within the Museum’s VR gallery. Bring your kiddos down for a one-of-a-kind experience as they navigate their way through the virtual ecosystem of a forest. The immersive experience is 12 minutes long and will highlight the connection between humans and the natural world. Little ones will be fascinated with the technology and are sure to have a great time! Not only that, parents can join in too! This exhibition has no age limit and promises an exciting experience for everyone in the family.

6. Air Force Museum Exhibits
The Air Force Museum has just reopened after 2 years! This free museum for kids in Singapore blends original artefacts and interactive media displays to highlight the history, heritage and values of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). Expect an engaging, hands-on experience here, as the indoor gallery lets kids learn about the RSAF through interactive displays and role-playing games, while the outdoor gallery has a number of fighter jets, missiles and anti-aircraft systems that you’ll want to snap pics of.

7. Exhibition of Asian Antiquities and Decorative Art: ACM
The Asian Civilisations Museum is home to over 1,300 artefacts, presented across 11 galleries and spanning over 14,000m2. Excellent at providing learning opportunities for both younger and older children, ACM features age-appropriate activities, gallery-based storytelling sessions and hands-on workshops, as well as a continually updated range of exhibitions. Keep an eye on their “Let’s Learn About…” series, which introduces a new topic every month specifically for kids.

8. Children’s Season at ACM: Into the Night
This year, the Asian Civilisation Museum is hosting Children’s Season: Into the night, an after hours programme for kids. Head down to the Asian Civilisation Museum and participate in tons of hand on activities and programmes specially curated for kids! From interactive installations to the immersive tour, A Voyage through Time , these programmes are suitable for kids aged 5 and up. 9. Children’s Festival – Around the World with Kiztopia Exhibition
Embark on a mission around the world as kiddos explore this outdoor exhibit! At the Children’s Festival set within Gardens by the Bay, each child will be given a complimentary activity booklet and when they complete the mission, they will receive an exclusive sticker sheet. If you have a sporty little one at home, bring them down to the Tiger’s Sports Arena! Activities include basketball, ring toss, baseball and more with exclusive goodie bags to be won. 10. Jumptopia: Wonder Garden Exhibition
OK this one is less of an exhibition and more of an interactive experience for kiddos! If you have a restless little one at home? Bring them down to Jumptopia. Featuring 8 garden-themed bouncy castles, kids are sure to have fun as they bounce away. When they’ve worked up an appetite from all the jumping, pop over to the Kith Café for a quick bite of their yummy food.

11. Otah & Friends Volume 2: Blast Off Exhibition
After a successful run, Otah & Friends is back for another exciting edition at the Cannonball Room at Gardens by the Bay! This time, it’s build-a-rocket day at Otah’s school, and kids will get to help Otah and his friends find and assemble a rocket before blasting off into space. Expect some fun storytelling, elaborate multi-room set designs and exciting gameplay for the whole fam.

12. Indians in Singapore – Past & Present Exhibition
Opened in 2015, the Indian Heritage Centre houses five permanent galleries with different exhibitions, a museum shop as well as programming and activity spaces. Indians in Singapore is a permanent exhibition at this museum for kids. The exhibit displays artefacts and interactive displays that tell the history of interactions between South and Southeast Asia. The exhibition depicts the experiences of the Indian community in both Singapore and Malaya during the colonial period and highlights the contributions of the Indian and South Asian communities to Singapore’s nation-building efforts.

13. Children’s Season 2022 at Indian Heritage Centre
Open for the duration of the school holidays, the Children’s Season 2022 at the Indian Heritage centre is not one to miss! Filled with fun activities and tours specially tailored for kids, there is so much for kids to enjoy. Join the Enchanted Forest Guided Tour by Nan Chiau High School to learn more about the exhibits or participate in the Enchanted Forest Maze for an adventure. Face painting and arts and crafts workshops are also available and kids can have a blast letting their imaginations go wild!

14. Adventures in Nusantara: Kid-friendly Exhibition
The Malay Heritage Centre provides a range of cultural learning opportunities for adults and kids of all ages and backgrounds. From batik workshops to traditional music and puppetry performances, there’s plenty of hands-on fun for kiddos. The exhibition “Adventures in Nusantara” is the Malay Heritage Centre’s first dedicated space for children (best for those between 3 – 6 years old). This exhibition aims to help children learn more through active play and exploration. For kiddos who want to explore more, head over to the reading nook stocked with books from the National Library. It is the perfect space for little ones to delve into Singapore’s history. Plus, head to Malay Heritage Centre in the evenings so you won’t miss Rainbow Connection II on the lawn, a dazzling display of 500 suspended solar light modules reflecting colourful lights in the wind!

15. Permanent Exhibitions at Malay Heritage Centre
There are six other permanent exhibitions spread over the two levels of the Malay Heritage Centre, showcasing stories and artefacts from both Singapore’s national collection as well as contributions from the community. The artefacts support The Malay Heritage Centre’s focus on Kampong Gelam’s historical significance as a thriving port town prior to Raffles’ arrival in 1819 and serve as evidence of the increasingly urban and cosmopolitan nature of Singapore Malay society.

16. SINGAPO人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture Exhibition
Head to the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and discover local Chinese culture through engaging exhibitions and performances at this museum for kids in Singapore! Learn about the Zhongyuan Festival and more, at this SINGAPO人 exhibition which highlights Chinese Singaporean culture from food to music, as well as language and festivals. Learn how Chinese culture in Singapore has evolved in a way quite unlike other communities around the world, and come discover (and rediscover) what it means to be a ‘Chinese Singapo人’ today.

17. Keppel Centre for Art Education Exhibition
National Gallery Singapore is home to the largest public collection of Singaporean and Southeast Asian art in the region. Within the National Gallery, the Keppel Centre for Art Education is a special exhibition space for kids where they can let their creativity run loose. 18. Children’s Biennale
Returning to the National Gallery once again this year, the Children’s Biennale is back! This years theme is “Why Art Matters” and will include exhibits that portray the importance of art during the unsettling times of the pandemic in a way that is easy for kiddos to understand. With a total of nine exhibits, children can look forward to immersing themselves in this gallery. From a larger-than-life city installation to stories submitted by children from all over the world, there are so many things for kids to enjoy! 19. The News Gallery: Beyond Headlines Exhibition
Read between the lines and develop information and media literacy skills at the National Library’s latest permanent exhibition, The News Gallery: Beyond Headlines. Divided into five zones, the exhibition, which features original copies of Singapore’s earliest newspapers and a fun, fake news-busting game for the whole family, encourages library patrons to consider the perspectives and influences that lie behind news stories. Drawing from the National Library Board’s rich collection of over 120 Singapore newspaper titles published since the 1820s, The News Gallery’s interactive exhibits will be refreshed from time to time.

20. An Old New World Exhibition
The National Museum of Singapore is the oldest museum in Singapore (it dates back to 1887). It delivers Singapore’s history through a massive permanent exhibition that kids aged 5 and above will enjoy walking around. The Singapore History Gallery chronicles Singapore’s journey from 700 years ago; kids can walk past the wooden ship, tinker with old fashioned phones, and marvel at the tank. Older kids will enjoy the multi-sensory experiences like the touch-screen displays, and smelling pods. The museum’s central location also makes it great for a post-museum run-around at Fort Canning Park.
The exhibition An Old New World explores the colonial interests and the local perspective of events that took place in the 200 years leading up to the establishment of the British East India Company trading settlement in Singapore, in 1819. Don’t miss the multimedia show “Meeting of the Worlds”, which dramatises the arrival of the first fleet of the English and Dutch East India Companies in Aceh in the 17th century. 21. Story of the Forest Exhibition
An interactive digital art installation by teamLab, Story of the Forest transforms 69 drawings from the William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings into three-dimensional animations. These artworks display the country’s colonial past, various histories and more.

22. Growing Up Exhibition
This gallery offers insight into the experiences of growing up in Singapore during the 1950s and 1960s through familiar social spaces where children would have spent most of their time – a great way for kiddos to see what childhood was like in the past! In kampongs (Malay for “villages”), schools and popular entertainment values, children found friendships and experienced an emerging local identity. Through personal anecdotes and interactive installations, relive the gotong royong (Malay for “community”) spirit that laid the foundation of a multi-racial Singapore and girded its post-war generation as they forged their dreams and aspirations.

23. Moving Memories Exhibition
Six of Yip Yew Chong’s murals that depict places and moments in Singapore’s past are projected on display at the LED Wall at the National Museum of Singapore. The pieces showcase little moments of heritage, from barbers in back lanes, to traditional roadside food stalls and old-school sundry shops. Want to see the murals in person? 24. Omni-Theatre Exhibition
Science Centre Singapore is one of our favourite edutainment centres in Singapore! With interactive, hands-on exhibits that are perfect for both younger and older children spread across 14 galleries, there’s enough here to keep all members of the family busy.
The Omni-Theatre is S.E Asia’s only 8K 3D digital IMAX dome theatre, with a five-storey high screen that immerses you into the action that you are viewing on screen. Head over to the Omni-theatre at Science Centre Singapore to watch interesting and educational screenings currently showing Dinosaurs of Antarctica.

25. Future Makers Exhibitions
The Science Centre’s newest permanent exhibition, Future Makers, celebrates the valuable contribution that engineers have made to shape our lives. It explores day-to-day innovations as well as complex engineering marvels that have shaped and changed lives. Aimed at young adults, guests visiting Future Makers can catch a glimpse of the modern engineering world, get hands-on with the interactive exhibits and problem-solve their way through an escape room.

26. Phobia: The Science of Fear Exhibition
This exhibit at the Science Centre explores different phobias from the fear of being buried alive to monsters under the bed – it can be a little scary for smaller kids so best to go with tweens or older kids who can take a fright or two!

27. Butterflies Up-Close Exhibitions
This butterfly exhibition inside Science Centre Singapore is separately ticketed but it is a real highlight. The start of the exhibition focuses on explaining the life cycle of a butterfly and kids will enjoy stamping the trail card along each stage. But the real joy is when you get to the butterfly enclosure and are surrounded by so many species of butterflies that may land on your shoulder or flutter around your head. Magnifying glasses are set up on some of the feeding stations for kids to take a closer look at these pretty creatures.

28. Know Your Poo Exhibition
The Science Centre’s Know Your Poo is a seriously fun exhibition that touches on the topics of human waste, toilets and sanitation. As you wind your way through the exhibition, you will discover how and why we need to poo. You also learn about the history and evolution of sanitation and toilets. The exhibition also highlights the urgent issue of the global divide. It then shows how engineering solutions might answer some of these challenges. Know Your Poo serves as a reminder that we all need to pay attention to the importance of providing good sanitation and practising good habits in order to safeguard our health and be a better society.

The Science Centre’s life-size labyrinth is filled with mirrors, infinite reflections and endless hallways. Within it, children can help Professor Crackitt find his pet parrot, Wattnot, who is hopelessly lost in the vast maze. The key is to find the parrot without getting lost yourself. Check out the Professor’s various whimsical inventions along the way.

30. The Singapore Ant Museum Exhibition
Ever been to a museum dedicated to ants? Did you know that ants have two stomachs? And that humans would not be able to exist without the presence of ants? The Singapore Ant Museum is a two-storey museum for kids in Singapore featuring more than 50 species of native ants. Visitors are greeted by a guide who will take you around the museum, and you’ll learn all sorts of amazing facts about ants such as their life cycles, species, types of environment it lives in and more. 31. Through the Lens of Time Exhibit
A modern-day ‘edutainment’ centre that showcases the past, present and future of Singapore, the Singapore Discovery Centre is a hands-on, minds-on experience ideal for older kiddos. Learn about life in Singapore from colonial times through wars and Japanese rule right up to newer discoveries and achievements at the Through the Lens of Time permanent gallery. This interactive gallery brings families on a journey through the historical moments in Singapore as different perspectives are brought to life. Other highlights include the Black Laser Tag battlefield for immersive laser tag with the kids, the Crossfire Paintball space, iWerks Theatre for all the latest movie screenings, and the Black Lake facility, where the fam can participate in a multi-sensorial escape experience with 13 different rooms and 4 story chapters.

32. Wan Qing Dragon Boat Festival Exhibition 2022
The Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall is a national monument and heritage institution managed under the National Heritage Board. The refurbished museum, which is extremely kid-friendly, traces Dr. Sun’s revolutionary activities in Southeast Asia, the contributions of the Singapore Chinese to the 1911 Revolution, as well as the impact of the revolution on Singapore and the Chinese community in Singapore. There is a range of programmes available all year round, many of which are suitable for children at school-going ages. From storytelling sessions to workshops, the Wan Qing Dragon Boat Festival 2022 has it all! Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with an interactive storytelling session and workshop, “Meet My Unusual Family” presented by Theatre Practice or enjoy an evening performance, Live on the Lawn. 33. Singapore Heritage Fest Exhibit 2022
Ready for an adventure? Bring the kiddos down to join the friendly mascot, Xiao Qing, on a journey around the world as she retraces the footsteps of Dr Sun Yat Sen and his friends. With three unique programmes, Singapore Heritage Fest has something for everyone! Featuring a self-guided photo trail, a Chinese activity kit and an in-gallery digital game, little ones will be able to learn in unique ways as they explore the memorial hall. 36. Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum Exhibits
Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum is one of our fave museums for kids in Singapore! There are more than 2,000 natural history specimens on display in 15 different thematic zones. The display items range from plants and amphibians to mammals, and even includes a sperm whale that was salvaged from when it was found dead off Jurong Island in 2015. Want to see a dinosaur? The permanent exhibit sees three 80% complete diplodocid sauropod fossils to gape at as well as tonnes of other animals and birds. Upstairs is a heritage gallery that includes some of the specimens that were displayed at the old Raffles Museum. 38. i Light Singapore
Returning this year, i Light is back with 20 fascinating light art installations that are set to light up Marina Bay. With installations such as the firefly light art installation, kids are sure to be entranced as they make their way through the event. Kiddos will also get a chance to learn from installations such as the Live More, Waste Less installation that focuses on food wastage. With larger-than-life sized inflatable sculptures that resemble “ugly” food, this installation implores visitors to look beyond the surface and ask the question” what makes food beautiful?” There are also a wide variety of exciting programmes and performances that you can catch with your kids throughout the event so don’t miss out!
